On Saturday, Harmanpreet Singh and his teammates suffered yet another setback, finishing the five-match series with a 3-1 loss, continuing the team’s sad trip of Australia.
Australia defeated the Indian men’s hockey team 1-5, dropping the series 1-3
The fourth game of the tour was played at Mate Stadium, and Australia outclassed India 5-1 thanks to a masterful performance. With one match remaining, Australia’s victory gave them a 3-1 series advantage after five games.
Jake Whetton (30′), Tom Wickham (34′), and Matt Dawson (54′) all scored goals for the home squad, which was led by Jeremy Hayward’s two goals in the 29th and 41st minutes.
After a scoreless first quarter, Dilpreet Singh got India going in the 25th minute, but from that point on, things only got worse.
With the help of star goalie Andrew Charter, who made several outstanding saves to prevent India from scoring, the World No. 1 team demonstrated its defensive ability on Saturday.
India finally broke through in the 25th minute when Dilpreet showed off his skill set to score and give the visitors the lead after struggling for the first few minutes to find space in the attacking circle.
Australia answered with a goal in the following four minutes, allowing the visitors to lose their advantage. Hayward, who was in good form, successfully converted a penalty corner in the 29th minute. Jake Whetton scored another goal for them less than a minute later.
In the ensuing two quarters, the Indian forwards attempted frantic incursions into the attacking area, but they were unable to get past the home team’s defence. India’s problems were made worse by Australia, who scored goals at regular intervals and left them with no room to recover.
Tom Wickham’s goal in the 34th minute and Hayward’s goal in the 41st minute of the third quarter added to the strain on India. Australia continued to build their lead throughout the fourth quarter, reaching 5-1 thanks to a penalty corner in the 54th minute.
