Atletico Madrid boss Diego Simeone outlines transfer demand for Cristiano Ronaldo
Atletico Madrid boss Diego Simeone outlines transfer demand for Cristiano Ronaldo: Diego Simeone, Atletico Madrid manager, wants to swap Cristiano Ronaldo with Diego Costa. In exchange for trading Costa, Simeone reportedly asked five-time Ballon d’Or winner Ronaldo to sign a new contract in Spain.
A change in sentiment is appearing as Atletico Madrid manager Diego Simeone has given a new assurance that Manchester United winger Cristiano Ronaldo may be allowed to leave.
Ronaldo, who is determined to leave Manchester United this summer, has been attempting to force through an exit for two months. But in just 10 days, the transfer window will be closed. He continues to try and work his way out of the club however.
Ronaldo came on as a second-half subsitute in the opening week of Premier League action before being benched in favor of other players for an embarrassing loss at Brentford. Ronaldo refused to acknowledge the traveling United fans after the game, showing disappointment amongst the club’s fans and employees.
Simeone reportedly wants Ronaldo so much that he is considered his “dream” signing and would allow a forward to join United in a separate deal. Despite Suarez’s departure this summer, Atletico are well-stocked in attack with Alvaro Morata’s return to the club joining Angel Correa, Matheus Cunha, Joao Felix and Antoine Griezmann.
Although to date United havenot made any official announcements about who they are hoping to sign, the future of Cunha, Felix, and Morata all remain uncertain. All three players were linked to United. The English club are hopeful that one of the central attacking players will be signed to provide competition for Anthony Martial – their only recognised senior striker should Cristiano leave.
Atletico Madrid have recruited well on paper, with several quality attackers on the roster. However, they may sell at least one star player before the transfer window closes. United wants to replace Henrikh Mkhitaryan and make a splash in Spain.
Simeone said after losing 2-1 against Villarreal: “I’m here to work with this team and not to ask for more players. We have a very complete squad. I hope we can continue the same way things are and if one player leaves the team then another one comes in.”
