ATL United and NY Red Bulls Final score and match-winner. The New York Red Bulls fought late to defeat Atlanta United 2-1 on Thursday night in Harrison, with 16-year-old Serge Ngoma scoring the game-winning goal in the 89th minute to become the league’s youngest goalscorer this season. N.J. Ngoma, who was making his fourth MLS appearance, replaced Omir Fernandez in the 69th minute and made a standout defensive move to help set up the game-winning goal.
Alan Franco of Atlanta attempted to pass, but Ngoma intercepted it. He then sprinted past Alex De John, a defender, and struck the bottom right corner of the goal with a right-footed effort from the middle of the box.
Lewis Morgan supplied the tying goal on a penalty kick in the 83rd minute before the New Jersey native scored the game-winning goal.
Following a sliding tackle by Atlanta defender Caleb Wiley on Luquinhas, Morgan successfully converted from the penalty spot for the third time this season. Stepping into a left-footed shot that found the middle of the goal, Morgan easily scored his seventh goal.
The Red Bulls (8-5-5, 29 points) earned their third straight victory at home thanks to the late comeback and moved into a tie for first place in the Eastern Conference with CF Montreal and the Philadelphia Union. After joining the game 12 minutes earlier, Josef Martinez scored following a scramble in the 75th minute.
Martinez grabbed the rebound of Emerson Hyndman’s right-footed drive from Atlanta after the Red Bulls were unable to clear it, and he then launched a right-footed shot from a very close distance into the bottom right corner.A diving stop on Ronaldo Cisneros in the 53rd minute was one of two saves made by New York goalkeeper Carlos Coronel.
The United (5-7-4, 19 points) saw their road losing streak go up to six games as Atlanta goalie Rocco Rios Nova made his fourth career start and stopped one shot (0-5-1). Atlanta’s lone shot of the first half, a left-footed drive from the middle of the box by Luiz Araujo, was stopped by Coronel with a leaping save in the 31st minute. The lone shot New York attempted was a header from Patryk Klimala, but Rios Novo stopped it.
