In a social media video, Busquets, whose contract expires this season, made his decision.
Sergio Busquets is finishing his “remarkable excursion” of almost twenty years with Barcelona, he said Wednesday.
Busquets, whose agreement closes this season, reported his choice with a video delivered via virtual entertainment.
Busquets, 34, stated, “It hasn’t been an easy decision but the time has come.” It has been an honor, a fantasy, and a justification behind pride to have had the option to wear this identification.”
Busquets showed up at Barcelona in 2005 and made it to a “B” group trained by Kick Guardiola after two seasons with the under-19s. He contributed to the promotion of the “B” team and made his first-team debut in 2008.
He has played 718 counterparts for Barcelona, investing him third all-energy behind Xavi and record-holder Lionel Messi. With the Catalan club, Busquets has won 31 titles, including three Champions Leagues and eight Spanish leagues.
With five games remaining, Barcelona holds a 13-point lead at the top, and he is about to win yet another league title.
Busquets, one of Barcelona’s best defensive midfielders, has scored 18 goals and provided 40 assists. He has been captain of the team for the past two seasons and was one of the veterans who accepted salary cuts during the club’s recent financial difficulties.
Busquets is the player with the most appearances in “clasicos” among Barcelona and Genuine Madrid, with 48.
It has been a journey unlike any other, he said. When I went to games or when I watched them on television as a child, I’ve always imagined playing in this shirt and at this stadium.
Today, my dreams have come true. If you had told me when I was a young player that I would play 15 seasons at the best club in the world, the club of my life, I wouldn’t have believed you.”
Busquets did not specify his destination for the upcoming season. On June 4, Barcelona’s final match in the Spanish league will be against Celta Vigo.
