David Ornstein, a journalist for the Athletic, claims that Lampard is on the verge of returning to the west London club as a manager. Tweeted Ornstein:Frank Lampard is being considered for the position of interim head coach at Chelsea until the end of this season.
The deal that was proposed would have 44-year-old installed right away, while a thorough search for a new permanent boss would continue for weeks.The Englishman got his start as a coach at Chelsea, where he worked as a youth coach from 2017-18.
Before becoming the Blues’ head coach in July 2019, he was hired as Derby County’s manager for the following season in the Championship.Before being fired in January 2021, Lampard managed 84 games across all competitions, winning 44 and losing 25.
He returned to Everton a year later, but in January 2023, with the team 19th in the standings after 20 games, he was let go.However, the Blues will not stop looking for a new manager after appointing Lampard as interim manager.
In the coming weeks, the Blues are expected to continue their search for the ideal candidate to take over as Potter’s permanent replacement before making a decision in the summer.
