Just under two hours following his underperforming team’s devastating 3-0 defeat against Fulham on Thursday, Aston Villa manager Steven Gerrard was let off.

Gerrard bears some responsibility for Villa’s dismal beginning of the season, that has put the team only one position well above Premier League relegation zone.

Injuries to summer acquisitions Diego Carlos and Boubacar Kamara as well as left-back Lucas Digne also hurt Gerrard.
In 40 games as Villa’s manager, Gerrard only managed 13 victories while losing 19 of them.
Gerrard’s management career has suffered a serious setback after the Liverpool icon was considered Jurgen Klopp’s likely long-term replacement following his success with Rangers.
