Although the 2022 season only Aston Martin came to an end a few weeks ago, the teams are already hard at work getting ready for the next one, as the new cars have been in development for months.
And Aston Martin is the first to announce when the world will get their first look at their new rival.
On Monday, February 13 at 7 p.m. GMT, the car, which will be called the AMR23, will have its covers removed.
The launch will take place at the team’s Silverstone location, where construction on a brand-new £200 million headquarters continues. Owner Lawrence Stroll hopes that the new headquarters will help the former Racing Point team rise to the top of the grid and eventually win the championship.
In the previous two seasons, Aston Martin finished seventh in the constructors’ championship. In 2023, the team will be hoping for a significant improvement, especially with a number of new employees settling in, including new Technical Director Dan Fallows, who was acquired from Red Bull.
Fernando Alonso will become the first driver of an Aston Martin in the AMR23. The two-time world champion will join the team next year after two seasons at Alpine.
Sebastian Vettel, who joined the team for two years after leaving Ferrari, will be replaced by Alonso and teammate Lance Stroll.
Alonso, a former driver for Renault, McLaren, and Ferrari, has high hopes for the upcoming season after experiencing Aston Martin machinery for the first time at the post-season test in Abu Dhabi in November.
Alonso stated after completing 97 laps in the 2022 vehicle: It was tasty! It was an extremely decent encounter. I feel respected to drive for such a famous brand.
“Having my first drive in the car and trying to feel the differences between Alpine and Aston Martin was a very special day. Clearly, we dashed two days prior here, so it’s exceptionally new and it’s extremely helpful.
The reveal will take place in front of a select few people and be shown on all of the show’s digital platforms.
After a disappointing 2022 campaign in which its AMR22 did not achieve ambitious goals, Aston Martin is coming off of that experience.
The team’s initial concept for the new ground effect car was flawed because it was unable to operate as low to the ground as it desired, just like Mercedes.
It managed to make some progress throughout the remainder of the year after redesigning its vehicle following the Spanish Grand Prix in a manner more akin to that of Red Bull.
The team ended up seventh in the constructors’ championship, equal to Alfa Romeo in points, but they lost the position to Alfa Romeo due to countback.
However, Aston Martin’s biggest success came in the summer when it announced that it had signed Fernando Alonso to replace Sebastian Vettel for 2023.
Aston Martin’s 2023 car has hinted at a new direction after the first year of the new rules era for Formula One.
Dan Fallows, technical director, recently disclosed that the new design will differ from what it raced this season.
When asked if it would look significantly different, he replied, “I mean there is a limit to what we can do with the current rules.” I am aware that my children’s test of new cars must always be successful. Therefore, if I present them to my children and they comment that they look different, then they do indeed look different.
“Dad, they always say that they all look the same! However, there are significant differences on the AMR23 within the confines of our rules.
