We soon realized that she is fond of cricket. She used to play with local boys of her age and often discussed a matter or two with her elder brothers.”
DIpa will also have a big role to play in her daughter’s journey. Uma’s father, Lok Bahadur, was a small farmer, so at times the family, consisting of Uma and her four brothers, had to struggle to make ends meet. But the young wicket-keeper batsman didn’t let that stop him. Although not everyone in the village agreed with her decision to play with the boys, Deepa urged her daughter to pursue her interests.
It was often late during the monsoon. So Deepa used to ask her brother to pick up Uma from the training institute.
