Indian wrestler Ravi Kumar Dahiya put up a strong performance in Asain Wrestling Championship 2022 here at Ulaanbaatar. The final match was against Kazakhstan’s Rakhat Kalyan. Ravi Dahiya wins the final on the basis of technical superiority on Saturday. With this, he won the third consecutive gold medal in the Asian Championship.
Ravi was a silver medalist at the Tokyo Olympics. In AC 2022 he had lost the lead in all his matches. But he made a spectacular comeback to beat all opposition wrestlers in the men’s freestyle event.
Back in the match after falling behind
It was the second final of the season for Ravi. He won a silver medal in the Dan Kolov event in February. Olympic silver medalist Ravi is a resident of Sonipat. Once again he displayed his physical stamina and strategic superiority. He first defeated Rikuto Arai of Japan in the men’s 57kg freestyle and then registered a resounding 12-5 victory over Mongolia’s Janabazar Jandanbud. Made it to the finals.
In the title clash, Kaljan was ahead from the ‘take down’. Also for a long time, he did not allow the Indian wrestler to score a single point. But Ravi started dominating the match by technical superiority.
He scored six consecutive ‘two-pointers’. He also saved himself from a ‘left-leg attack’ during which the match ended early in the second period. By this India won the tournament’s first gold medal this year. Ravi had won gold in the 2020 edition in Delhi. After this also in Almaty. So this is the Hat-trick of gold medal in the Asian Wrestling Championship, after defeating Rakhat Kalyan.
