Pep Guardiola, manager of Manchester City, apologized to former Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard on Tuesday for remarks he made after the Premier League fined City for more than 100 financial rule violations.
If an independent commission finds the English champions guilty of the alleged breaches between 2009/10 and 2017/18, they could lose points or even be relegated from the English top flight.
Two years before Guardiola arrived in Manchester, City won the Premier League title thanks to Gerrard’s slip in a defeat to Chelsea in 2014.
Guardiola stated in his first press conference following the disclosure of the charges. We may or may not be to blame for Steven Gerrard’s slip.
However, the City manager claimed that he had since communicated with the former Aston Villa manager to apologize.
Despite not winning the Premier League, Gerrard is regarded as one of Liverpool’s greatest players.
Guardiola said, “I apologize to Steven Gerrard for my last unnecessary and stupid comments about him.”
“He knows how much I admire him for his actions in my home country. I stood up for my team, but my stupid remarks didn’t do it any favors. I’m embarrassed.
I have apologized to him privately, but since the remark was made in public. I must also make my apology public.
City is back in the running to win the Premier League for the fifth time in seven years. Despite the possibility that they will lose their league titles.
They are confident that a victory against Arsenal on Wednesday will propel them to the top of the league on goal difference.
Regarding the matchup at the top of the table, Guardiola added. “Of course, an important one, everyone knows it, we know it, and we have to try to perform well.”
Erling Haaland is questionable for Sunday’s 3-1 victory over Aston Villa because he injured his thigh at halftime.
