Arjun Tendulkar made his Ranji Trophy debut with a century. He scores his first century against Rajasthan with 177 deliveries while playing for Goa.
On Wednesday, his son Arjun Tendulkar made a similar accomplishment, nearly 35 years after Sachin Tendulkar made his Ranji Trophy debut and scored his first-ever First Class century. At the Goa Cricket Association field in Porvorim, Tendulkar jr., who moved to Goa this season, scored his first first-class century in 177 deliveries against Rajasthan.
Arjun scored 12 boundaries and two sixes while ranking seventh, with Goa at 201/5. He was batting on 112 at the end of the 40th over, having completed an unbroken 205-run partnership with Suyash S Prabhudesai (172 batting). Tendulkar Jr. sought a No Objection Certificate (NoC) from the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) earlier this season after making the decision to relocate to Goa.
“Getting maximum game time on the ground is important for Arjun at this juncture of his career,” the SRT Sports Management company stated in its statement. We think that the change will make it more likely that Arjun will play in more intense matches. He is leaving on another period of his cricketing profession.”
Sachin had traveled to Goa to meet his son prior to the start of the Ranji Trophy. In Mumbai, Tendulkar Jr. and his performance were constantly in the spotlight. This season, Tendulkar Jr. represented Goa at Vijay Hazare and the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. In eight List A matches, the left-handed batsman and medium-pacer took eight wickets. He took four wickets for Goa in three T20 matches during the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy.
Arjun was included in the Mumbai team by the MCA senior selection committee when Mumbai reached the Ranji Trophy final last season, but he didn’t play a game. The left-arm pacer had been selected for the India under-19 team as a junior, followed by a stint with Mumbai Indians of the Indian Premier League (IPL). He has yet to play in the IPL.
