Arsenal squad 2022/2023: New players, numbers, transfers
Unfortunately for Arsenal fans, Mikel Arteta’s squad finished fifth in the Premier League that year (2021–2022).
The Gunners’ disappointment in missing out on UEFA Champions League qualification to Tottenham Hotspur in May only grew from there.
Arteta has vowed to have a team capable of making an impression in the Europa League and continuing to challenge the elite of the Premier League.
Arteta is anticipated to recruit more players before the season begins, but Marquinhos and Fabio Vieira have already arrived to provide creativity to midfield, and the United States international Matt Turner has joined as a backup goalkeeper.
Confirmed transfers in
Arteta has already made three acquisitions this window, with a combined projected fee of £40.3 million/$49.1 million, thanks to a pre-agreement over Turner and shrewd moves for Marquinhos and Vieira. Manchester City’s Gabriel Jesus is also expected to make the trip.

Confirmed transfers out
The controversial January departure of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has not deterred Arteta from continuing his practice of releasing high-earning veteran players.
French youth Matteo Guendouzi also left the Emirates Stadium after being offered no new terms for his contract, joining Alexandre Lacazette in leaving for Lyon.

New contracts
After deciding to release Lacazette, Arsenal re-signed two additional players whose contracts were set to expire at the end of June.
For his strong play down the stretch, Mohamed Elneny received a one-year contract extension, while Eddie Nketiah put an end to any questions about his long-term future by signing a hefty five-year agreement.
Returning loanees
Both Guendouzi and Mavropanos left after Marseille and Stuttgart exercised their purchase options.
William Saliba, a French international on loan to Arteta’s Ligue 1 club, is eager to make an impression ahead of what is expected to be a permanent offer from Marseille for the player.
