Arsenal signs Gabriel Jesus from Manchester City
Arsenal signs Gabriel Jesus from Manchester City. Arsenal confirmed that the transfer of Gabriel Jesus from champions Manchester City is completed. Gabriel Jesus is on a pen-to-paper contract of 5 years with Arsenal until 2027. Jesus had one year left on his contract at the Etihad but the City chose to cash in on him.
The London club has reportedly agreed to pay a sum of £45 million to acquire him for a long-term deal. The 25-year-old forward joined Arsenal after he established himself as one of the leading strikers in the recent Premier League. He has scored 95 goals so far in 236 appearances during his round of five seasons in Manchester.
Arsenal manager, Mikel Arteta has previously worked with Jesus at Manchester City, and has high praise for him.
“I know Gabriel personally very well, and we all know him well from his time in the Premier League and being really successful here,” Arteta said.
“This is a position that’s been on our radar for a long time now and we have managed to get a player that we all wanted, so I’m really happy.”
Arteta had eyes on Jesus on priority after working with him and acknowledging his talent. Jesus was also seen keen to join the Gunners.
The Gunners had worked day and night for nearly six months with Jesus’ representative Marcello Pettinati to make sure that they were in the prime position in order to acquire him from City this summer.
He is the fourth signing member of the north London club, Arsenal after the club has already made great additions to the team in the form of Fabio Vieira, Matt Turner, and Marquinhos.
Technical Director Edu said: “We are delighted that we have secured the transfer of Gabriel. Everyone who knows football well, knows the qualities of Gabriel Jesus.”
“Gabriel is a player who we have admired for a long time now. He is 25 years old and an established Brazil international who has consistently demonstrated that he is a player at a very high level. We look forward to seeing him join up with his new teammates ahead of the new season. We all welcome Gabriel to Arsenal.”
Gabriel Jesus showed his gratitude and declared his indebtedness to Manchester City.
“It’s been a pleasure to play for Manchester City,” Jesus exclaimed. “I feel like I am a better player now than when I arrived — and to win 11 trophies has been amazing.
“My four Premier League titles are particularly special for me. I want to thank everyone at City — the manager, my teammates and the fans — for all the support they have given me over the past 5½ years.”
Jesus is all set to wear the No 9 shirt that was recently vacated by Alexandre Lacazette, who was acquired by Lyon on the condition of a free transfer.
