Antonio Rüdiger Biography. Antonio Rüdiger is a German professional footballer born on March 3, 1993. He plays center back for Real Madrid in La Liga and the German national team. Rüdiger started his career at VfB Stuttgart, where he played for the reserve team in the 3. Liga and the primary group in the Bundesliga. He joined Roma in 2015, first on loan and then for a fee of €9 million a year later. He joined Chelsea in 2017 for an estimated £27 million. In his first season there, he won the FA Cup, then the UEFA Europa League, and then the UEFA Champions League in 2021. In 2022, Rüdiger joined Real Madrid, the team that won the European Cup.
In May 2014, he played his first game for Germany outside of Germany. He was injured earlier in the season and couldn’t play in UEFA Euro 2016, but he was on the team that won the 2017 FIFA Confederations Cup. He stayed on the team for the 2018 World Cup and played in the UEFA Euro 2020 tournament.
Club career
To VfB Stuttgart
On July 23, 2011, Rüdiger played his first game for VfB Stuttgart II against Arminia Bielefeld in the 3. Liga. Then, on January 29, 2012, Rüdiger played his first professional game for VfB Stuttgart against Borussia Monchengladbach at home. He was replaced by Raphael Holzhauser in the 79th minute of a 3–0 loss.
VfB Stuttgart to Roma
On August 19, 2015, Stuttgart loaned Rüdiger to Serie A club Roma for €4 million. At the end of the one-year contract, either club could pay the other €9 million to make a transfer. On September 12, he played his first game, which was a 2–0 win away against Frosinone.
Roma to Chelsea
On July 9, 2017, Rüdiger signed a five-year deal with Chelsea after moving there from Roma. The initial fee was said to be £29 million. He got the shirt with the number 2 on it. He played for the first time on August 6, 2017, when he came in as a substitute for Marcos Alonso in the 79th minute of the FA Community Shield game against Arsenal. They lost 4–1 on penalties. Six days after that, he played in his first Premier League game, a 3–2 loss to Burnley at Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea to Real Madrid

Rüdiger has spoken out against racism in sports many times, including after a game against Tottenham Hotspur on February 24, 2020.
