Chennaiyin FC, the two-time Indian Super League winners, has signed a two-year contract with Indian midfielder Anirudh Thapa. With this agreement, the 24-year-old will remain with the club he joined in 2016 until the summer of 2024. Check out the complete details below.
Anirudh Thapa has been retained by Chennaiyin FC
Since joining the Marina Machans, the Dehradun-born player has been a vital component of the team’s setup, playing a key role in Chennaiyin FC’s success over the years, including appearing in two ISL finals and winning the championship once in the 2017-18 season.
“Thapa arrived while he was young. And in that time, he’s won an ISL title, established himself as one of the greatest in the country, and led Chennaiyin FC for a season,” said Vita Dani, co-owner of Chennaiyin FC.
Thapa joined Chennaiyin FC as a developing player following four years at the AIFF Elite Academy from 2012 to 2016.
“Chennaiyin FC has always treated me like a family.” And then there’s Chennai, my hometown. So making this selection was not difficult. “I can’t wait to get started with supporters roaring at a crowded Marina Arena,” Thapa said.
Anirudh Thapa, born on January 15, 1998, is an Indian professional footballer who plays as a midfielder for the Indian Super League club Chennaiyin, which he captained, and the Indian national squad.
Thapa was raised in Dehradun, Uttarakhand, where he attended St. Joseph’s Academy. He started playing football at the St. Stephen’s Football Academy in Chandigarh when he was ten years old. He was chosen to attend the AIFF Regional Academy in Kalyani in 2012 after spending quality time with the India U14 team. Thapa advanced through the ranks of the national junior squad to the AIFF Elite Academy, where he became captain of the I-League U19 side. Thapa, together with four other youngsters, was chosen to join French Ligue 2 club Metz for a brief training stint sponsored by Indian Super League side Chennaiyin in April 2016.
