Andrea Otto, Bavarian’s Most Beloved and Popular TV Anchorwoman, Passes. Andrea Otto, was an ever-present anchorwoman and reporter at Bayerischer Rundfunk for many years. She eventually passed away at age 47 due to a heart attack in Munich.
Andrea Otto, a successful radio station presenter and sports journalist, died last Friday due to a serious illness at the age of 47. She worked for Bayerischer Rundfunk all her career and was deployed around the world.

On July 6, Bayerischer Rundfunk released an official statement confirming the death of long-time employee Andrea Otto. She remained confident with her colleagues until the end and kept their hopes alive, according to their website: On one of her final phone calls, she didn’t disclose to her colleagues that she had a serious case of leukemia. Rather, she’d planned for the future and believed in getting better. She asked that candles be lit for her at churches to remember her and support her recovery.

A Pfaffenhofen native and Rohrbach raised, Lynwood Bayi worked as a journalist for many years but switched to the radio industry in the early 1990s. Bayi then completed her apprenticeship for a printing house and finally joined Bayerischer Rundfunk.
Andrea Otto always broadcast her expertise as a sports journalist, interviewing stars like Franz Beckenbauer (here at the 2008 farewell game for FC Bayern goalkeeper Oliver Kahn).
Initially, she was often deployed there for Bayern 3 and B5, where her expertise and versatility as a sports journalist were valued enough to make the leap from radio to television. From 2007 she was more active in “Blickpunkt Sport” (from 2007) and “Abendschau – Der Sued” (from 2012). She was also active with the ARD in the field of winter sports (especially skiing, cross-country skiing, biathlon).
Writer Andrea Otto reported on several Olympiads and the World Cup presenter succumbed to a serious illness.
Andrea Otto was an influential journalist, creating films for public broadcasters such as CBC. In 2006, she reported for a few months at the Winter Olympics in Turin and later on produced films about Vancouver and the Sochi Olympics in 2014 and 2008 respectively. On July 1st last week, Andrea succumbed to the illness that had spread throughout her body due to a tragic incident involving assault with a pellet gun in Frankfurt.
With Andrea Otto’s death, Germany has fallen victim to another celebrity passing. The last few days have also seen actor William Cohn die at the age of 65, after only a few days earlier on June 30, Böhmermann speaker Heinz Christian Strache died at the age of 67 from Parkinson’s disease after a long life as a sports journalist and relaxation trainer.
