Indian women’s hockey team started their campaign with a win against Ghana. However, the team of women in blue performed some less to the expectation. They should defeat Ghana with some more margin. Team Ghana is a much less ranked team as compared to India. Ghana showed good defense in the entire match especially the goalkeeper Ghana did a brilliant job for the team. The rest of the Indian contingent too got off to a good start on the first day of the 22nd Commonwealth Games.
In boxing, Indian experienced boxer Shiv Thapa defeated his Pakistani opponent. India also defeated Pakistan in the mixed team event of badminton sports. In women’s hockey, the women in blue defeated Ghana by a huge margin of 5-0 in the first match. However, there were expectations of a little more margin win from Indian women against Ghana.
Gurjeet Kaur scored 2 goals in hockey
The Indian women’s hockey team gave a one-sided defeat to lower-rank team Ghana in the first encounter of their campaign. Team women’s team had finished fourth in the Tokyo Olympics games. Indian star drag-flicker Gurjit Kaur scored the highest two goals for India. Neha, Sangeeta, and Salima Tete also contributed 1-1 goals for India.
Indian captain and goalkeeper Savita Punia did a good job in goalkeeping. She saves one of two good attacks from the Ghana team as per the expectation. India’s team considered several penalty corners in the game but not converted most into goals. It seemed that team Ghana had analyzed the Indian strategy of taking Penalty Corner. It worked for them and they succeeded to save the goals against Penalty Corner.
In Table Tennis, the women’s team won against South Africa & Fiji Island and made their position for the quarterfinals. Similarly, the men’s team has also got success to make their position in the quarterfinals. Whereas in squash too, the Indian team started with a win.
