Alzarri Shaheim Joseph is an Antiguan cricketer who was born on the 20th of November, 1996. He plays for the West Indies team in Tests and ODIs. He is an all-rounder player who is a right-arm fast bowler and a right-handed batsman.
Career
Domestic Career
In December 2015, Joseph was made a member of the West Indies squad for the 2016 Under-19 World Cup. At the tournament, he knocked down 13 wickets from six matches. He was the leading wicket-taker of his team due to that match. His best performance was 4/30 against Zimbabwe, which gave him the title “Man of the match” for that match.
In October 2019, he became a part of the Leeward Islands’ squad for the 2019–20 Regional Super50 tournament.
International Career
In July 2016 he played against India being a member of the West Indies Test squad. He made his Test debut on the 9th of August 2016 in the third match of the series.
He made his One Day International (ODI) debut against Pakistan on the 2nd of October 2016.
In October 2018, he signed a contract with Cricket West Indies (CWI) across all formats of cricket for the 2018–19 season.
He received appreciation when, during the 2nd Test match against England in 2019, Joseph did not stop playing, despite the news that his mother had died.
In June 2020, Joseph was included in the list of the West Indies Test squad for their series against England.
Joseph made his maiden Test fifty on the 5th of December 2020, scoring 86 runs in the second innings against New Zealand.
In June 2022, Joseph was included to be on the West Indies Twenty20 International (T20I) squad list for their series against Bangladesh.
In March 2019, Jose was selected by the Mumbai Indians as a replacement for Adam Milne. On the 6th of April 2019, he made his IPL debut against the Sunrisers Hyderabad and bagged 6/12, the best bowling statistics for a debutant, surpassing Andrew Tye’s 5/17 in 2017.
The best bowling statistics in the IPL were made by him, breaking the eleven-year-old record by Sohail Tanvir (6/14) and the second-best T20 bowling figures by Deepak Chahar (6/7).
He left Mumbai Indians ahead of the 2020 IPL auction. In July 2020, he became a member of St Kitts & Nevis Patriots squads for the 2020 Caribbean Premier League. In February 2022, he was taken up by the Gujarat Titans for the 2022 Indian Premier League tournament.
