Ajit Agarkar, the newly appointed chairman of selectors, is allegedly planning a trip to the West Indies to meet with captain Rohit Sharma and head coach Rahul Dravid to talk about the World Cup team’s overall fitness and other matters. In preparation for the second and final Test against the Men in Maroon, Team India has gathered in Trinidad.
Only two months separate India from appearing in a World Cup on home soil, and there is some uncertainty over personnel and fitness difficulties along the route. Shreyas Iyer, KL Rahul, and Jasprit Bumrah, among others, are now fully recovering from severe wounds. The Asia Cup, a brief bilateral series against Australia, a white-ball series in the Caribbean and other events are all slated for the Men in Blue.
Under the condition of anonymity, a BCCI source spoke to PTI regarding Agarkar’s anticipated presence in the Caribbean and said:
At the moment, Salil Ankola is in the West Indies, but he’ll return when the Test series is complete. Before the commencement of the white ball leg, Ajit will be a member of the team.
A backup team from the BCCI is also anticipated to travel to Ireland for a three-match T20I series.
which is also being looked at as a potential opportunity for Bumrah’s injury comeback.
The right-arm bowler didn’t participate in the T20 World Cup in 2022 or the Indian Premier League (IPL) in 2023. He last played in the home series against Australia in 2022.
Ajit Agarkar and company must make a choice regarding the participation of Bumrah and Rahul as well as the transition of the ODI and Test team
Jasprit Bumrah has reportedly begun bowling in the nets.
Although the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru’s fitness trainers have not yet given him a Return To Play (RTP) Certificate.
In the absence of Rishabh Pant, KL Rahul has been tipped as the team’s No. 1 ODI wicketkeeper pick. Rahul has also been hitting in the practice arena. He won’t likely be selected for the Ireland series. But the management will decide whether to include him in the 2023 Asia Cup.
Agarkar also aims to provide a strategy for the current reorganization of the ODI and Test team. For the current Test series in the West Indies, veteran players like Cheteshwar Pujara and Umesh Yadav were not chosen. At the same time, fresh faces like Ruturaj Gaikwad and Yashasvi Jaiswal received their first Test call-ups.
