Virat Kohli is ranked as the finest Indian batter by former cricketer Navjot Sidhu, surpassing rivals like MS Dhoni, Sachin Tendulkar, and Sunil Gavaskar.
Kohli is still smashing batting records; he just became the quickest player to score 50 hundred in the format and the fastest to reach 13,000 runs in ODIs. With 765 runs at the World Cup last year, the 35-year-old also eclipsed Sachin Tendulkar’s record for most runs in a single ODI World Cup edition.
Prior to IPL 2024, Navjot Sidhu expressed his opinion to India Today that Kohli is the greatest Indian batter of all time because of his versatility across three forms.
He is, in my opinion, the greatest Indian hitter of all time. There were times, back in the 1970s, when I would turn on my transistor and watch Sunil Gavaskar play cricket against the West Indies.
He ruled for around fifteen to twenty years. Then another era arrived with Tendulkar. Virat followed Dhoni in order of appearance. Kohli is the greatest of the four, in my opinion, since he has adapted to all three forms, Navjot Sidhu said.
Sidhu said that Kohli stood apart among the greats due to his longevity and level of fitness.
Likewise, he is the most physically fit of them all and has excellent technical ability. He would be the fittest out of the four. Tendulkar experienced issues in his later professional years.
Dhoni is in good shape. Virat is really well-fit. That benefits him much. It takes him to a level, a few notches above, that nobody else has attained. He benefits from his longevity. Sone Pe Suhaaga is the aspect of adaptation, Sidhu continued.
Throughout his international career, Kohli has amassed over 26,000 runs and 80 hundreds in a variety of forms.
