Karim Benzema, a Real Madrid striker, added another goal to his goal tally in his bid to match Cristiano Ronaldo’s record in the team’s 1-0 victory over Liverpool on March 15. With 451 goals in 438 games, Ronaldo is Los Blancos’ all-time leading goal scorer.
He assisted them with winning four UEFA Champions Association prizes and two La Liga titles, among different distinctions. Benzema, on the other hand, has been an important part of the Spanish club ever since Ronaldo left in 2018. He has also been honored with five Champions League medals and four La Liga crowns.
The Frenchman is now aiming to match Cristiano Ronaldo’s club record for goals scored. His goal on Wednesday, March 15, in Real Madrid’s 1-0 victory over Liverpool in the second leg of their UCL Round of 16 matchups was his 342nd goal in 633 games for the club.
With 19 more goals than the prolific Raul, Benzema ranks second on Real Madrid’s all-time list of top scorers. However, it seems unlikely that the 35-year-old, who is nearing the end of his career, will score as many goals as Ronaldo did (450).
Regardless, he won the Ballon d’Or in 2022 and has been in dominant form in recent seasons. In 28 games across all competitions this season, he has scored 19 goals and contributed five assists.
Regarding Real Madrid’s victory over Liverpool, Carlo Ancelotti:
With a 5-2 advantage from the first leg, Real Madrid went into the second leg against Liverpool at the Santiago Bernabeu. They started out strong and made a lot of chances, but they didn’t use them to their advantage. Despite the Reds’ numerous chances, Real Madrid comfortably advanced to the next round thanks to Benzema’s goal.
Manager Carlo Ancelotti praised his team’s youth and experience in a post-game statement, saying:
“The atmosphere is created by the players’ intelligence and humility. Because they don’t have egos, the veterans’ humility is so important.
The young players also need to be patient because they know they have guys who have had great careers before them. Los Blancos have the absolute most prominent names in world football in any semblance of Benzema (35), Luka Modric (37), Toni Kroos (33), and Dani Carvajal (31).
However, Eduardo Camavinga (20), Vinicius Jr. (22) and Rodrgyo Goes (22) are among their outstanding young talent.
