On Tuesday, Paris St Germain named Christophe Galtier as their new manager, only days after parting company with Mauricio Pochettino. Galtier joins PSG after leaving Nice previous month, where he led the club to a French Cup runner-up finish and a fifth-place finish in Ligue 1.
After splitting ways with Pochettino, PSG has named Galtier as their next manager
In the previous season, the 55-year-old Frenchman led Lille to their first Ligue 1 title since 2011. Galtier played for Saint Etienne for eight seasons before joining Lille, where he won the French Cup in 2012-2013.
Galtier’s hiring comes after PSG president Nasser al-Khelaifi put a stop to speculation regarding France great Zinedine Zidane, denying claims that the club was in negotiations with the 1998 World Cup winner about becoming their new manager.
Pochettino was signed by PSG in January 2021. And won the Ligue 1 championship in 2021-22 as well as the French Cup in 2020-21 but failed to satisfy in the Champions League, the only major prize that has escaped PSG after Qatar Sports Investment took ownership in 2011.
PSG, which has won eight league titles ever since acquisition, finished second in the Champions League in 2020, but were eliminated in the last 16 by eventual champions Real Madrid last season. Pochettino comes in with a good background, having made Tottenham Hotspur a constant top-four finisher in England’s Premier League and taking them to the Champions League final in 2019.
And yet had a star-studded roster at his service at PSG, with Kylian Mbappe, Neymar, and Lionel Messi entering the fray, Pochettino has failed to capture the other major titles on hand, winning just the league title last season. Pochettino departs PSG after 84 competitive league games this season, team earned 55, drawn 15, and losing 14.
