After beating his close friend, Nick Kyrgios makes honest admission : Nick Kyrgios admitted that playing against his close friend Thanasi Kokkinakis was one of the most uncomfortable matches. He outcast Thanasi won the US Open with sets 6-3, 6-4, 7-6(4) in front of the crowd. The stadium- Arthur Ashe Stadium was sold out in the US Open match between the two.
Nick Kyrgios and Thanasi Kokkinakis were the two best friends from childhood. He also said that he was trying not to look at Thanasi during the match.
Nick stated ” it’s probably one of the most uncomfortable matches I have ever played in my career. I feel like we both had a game plan. We know our games very well from getting to go. I was trying to block out his body and just play with the tennis ball. I was trying to not look at him. I felt like that kind of helped me to execute the plan” via the ATP website.
Nick Kyrgios was able to execute well
Before this match, Serena Williams kicked off her US Open final at the stadium. It featured record-breaking attendees on Monday at the stadium. Kyrgios knew what I’d expected and he is glad he was able to execute the plan. He said” To play against one of my best friends after Serena’s probably the last match with record-breaking attendance, it was insane. A night I will never forget, my 200th win as well. So a couple of accolades today were good.
Nick and Bonzi will be meeting each other for the first time in their careers when they meet at Flushing Meadows Kyrgios has made a good start for his US Open this year, it would be shocking if he lost to Bonzi.
