After beating Australia in a series, India set a new record. With a win over Australia in the third and final T20I in Hyderabad, India kept up its good run chase record in T20Is. Tim David (54) and Cameron Green (52) both had half centuries. But this could not stop India from winning. They finished the run chase with one ball to spare, making it the 13th time in 14 attempts since 2021 that India has won a run chase. The series win was also India’s 21st T20I win of the year, which is the most ever for a men’s T20I team. Until now, Pakistan bore the record with 20 T20I wins in 2021.
The game
Green got Australia off to a great start to the game. The young all-rounder got to 50 in just 19 balls, which was a record against India, and the visitors looked like they were going to score a lot of runs. However, Australia quickly lost key players Steve Smith (9) and Glenn Maxwell (6). Still, David’s last hit helped the visitors get a good score of 186/7.
When India was down to 30/2, it was hard for them to get the runs they needed. However, India got back on track when Virat Kohli and Suryakumar Yadav put up 100+ runs together. Still, when Suryakumar Yadav was out in the 14th over, the job got more challenging.
With 11 runs needed to win off Daniel Sams’s last over, Virat Kohli, who finished with 63 from 48 balls, hit a six off the first ball, cutting the number of runs needed to win down to five runs off of five balls. But Kohli was out on the next ball, bringing the number of required runs down to four from two balls.
India tied a record and won the series when Hardik Pandya hit a ball towards the third man, and it went out for four.
