After Barcelona’s announcement, Chelsea’s negotiations with Jules Kounde took a surprising turn! The fast-paced saga of Jules Kounde’s move from Chelsea to Barcelona has taken another turn. Barcelona activated a significant cash offer that could lead them to make a rival bid. Both clubs are trying to sign the Sevilla defender, and Blues fans are nervously waiting for the deal to be made public. In the chaos that has gone one way and then the other, Chelsea got the ball rolling by agreeing to pay Sevilla £55 million.
The Blues were interested in Kounde back in January. But they let of those wished due to the expense. Thomas Tuchel was always expected to try again this summer. But problems were on the way, and there were rumors that Kounde would rather go to Barcelona. The Catalan team reportedly told the Frenchman to chill out and wait until they got some money together. Soon after, he joined the rest of his team on a pre-season tour.
The transfer market is still a mess
Tuchel would have liked to avoid more pressure on the Kounde front. This is because he already has a lot on his plate in the transfer market. Rumors have it that the German is trying to stop the move of highly-rated striker Armando Broja to West Ham, even though the young player wants to go because it would give him more chances to play in the first team.
There are also questions about the futures of up-and-coming center backs Levi Colwill and Ethan Ampadu, who both want to play for the first team even though new defenders are coming. The small matter of stealing Frenkie de Jong away from Manchester United is also said to be on the table during what looks like it will be a jam-packed summer at Stamford Bridge.
Tuchel on the Premium League
“The stakes are high and we’re competing not only against the best teams who have ever played in the Premier League but also the best coaches,” Tuchel revealed to Sky Sports. “We come from sanctions, we come from losing top-quality players, key players, we are a club in transition, in transition of ownership, we were behind in the transfer race and we were behind in the table. So we have things to improve. The signing of Raheem shows what we’re capable of doing, it shows the ambition of the club and the ownership and it’s good because we’re all here to win and compete. We love to compete and we love the challenge at the very top. For that we need signings of new quality players or otherwise there’s no chance.”
