African Footballer of the year list: 2022
African Footballer of the year 2022 list: Sadio Mane, who recently joined Bayern Munich, won the prize for 2022, edging out Edouard Mendy of Chelsea and Mohamed Salah, a former teammate at Liverpool.
In addition, Mane won the African Footballer of the Year title in 2019 after finishing second to Salah in both 2018 and 2017.
Instead of a single calendar year, performance over the previous season is now taken into account while awarding the honour.
Senegal won the Cup of Nations and qualified for the 2022 FIFA World Cup thanks to Mane’s penalties in the 2021–22 season.
Mane assisted Liverpool in winning the FA Cup and the Carabao Cup at the club level, but the Reds were unsuccessful in the Premier League and the UEFA Champions League.
Asisat Oshoala won the women’s award at the CAF Awards for a record sixth time, and Pape Matar Sarr won Young Player of the Year.
