Afghanistan down Ireland to keep T20 series alive
Afghanistan down Ireland to keep T20 series alive. In the third T20 international at Stormont, Afghanistan held off a valiant Irish comeback to maintain the five-match series.
In the third T20 international in Stormont, Afghanistan defeated Ireland by 22 runs despite George Dockrell’s brave counterattack.
Ireland, hoping to take a commanding 3-0 lead in the five-game series, was in serious trouble after falling to 7-85 in pursuit of 190 when Dockrell and debutant Fionn Hand gave the home team hope.
The Afghanistan attack, which featured prominent players like Rashid Khan, Mujeeb ur Rahman, and Mohammad Nabi, was defeated as a result of the 74-run partnership between the eighth-wicket combination in just over six overs.
Before the stand was ultimately ended with the score at 159 when Hand was caught trying to scoop Naveen-ul-Haq, he made 36 off just 18 balls.
Dockrell fought on and completed the day undefeated on 58 after hitting six fours and two sixes in his 37-ball innings, but Ireland concluded on 9-167 without his help.
Rashid went without a wicket for the third game in a row in the series, Mujeeb took 2-28 from his four overs, while Naveen-ul-Haq was the best bowler with 3-38.
Prior to being brought in, Afghanistan had scored 5-189, with opener and KFC BBL|12 Draft nominee Rahmanullah Gurbaz leading the way with 53 while Najibullah Zadran hit five sixes in his 18-ball 42.
After winning the first game by seven wickets with one ball left and the second by five wickets with six balls left, Ireland leads the series 2-1.
The fourth T20 will take place on Monday at the same location in Belfast.
