According to Wasim Jaffer hailed Tilak Varma for his outstanding batting performance in his first T20I match against the West Indies on Thursday in Trinidad. Jaffer claimed that Varma batted as though it were a club or a state competition while discussing the batter’s performance.
In the opening T20I, West Indies defeated India by four runs. After winning the toss, the hosts chose to bat first and scored 149/6. The Men in Blue appeared to be in control of the match around the midway point. However, they were limited to 145/9 after failing in the pursuit.
The visitors’ bat performance was dismal, but rookie Varma stood out by scoring 39 runs off 22 balls. During his time at the crease, he hit sixes off the second and third balls he faced. He also appeared to be in control.
Jaffer spoke highly of the young left-hander to ESPNcricinfo:
He seemed remarkable. There were absolutely no anxieties. He appeared to be playing for his state team or in a club game when he first started. Absolutely no pressure. He showed up and supported himself. The wonderful thing about him is that it demonstrates his superior mental fortitude. He was the only one on this pitch who appeared to be at ease.
Jaffer continued by saying that had Varma continued to bat just a little bit longer, India would have won the match.
The shots he made, including the sliced-through third man and other shots, demonstrate that he was in good condition. He would be miffed if he couldn’t add another 20 or so runs. India would have returned home if Varma had received 50 or 60. The run-out by Sanju Samson also hurt them. He continued, He was looking excellent.
When Varma attempted to draw a slower, shorter delivery from Romario Shepherd, he was sent into the deep.
“Ishan Kishan’s recent performance in T20 international cricket is somewhat concerning” – According to Wasim Jaffer
Jaffer brought up Ishan Kishan’s subpar T20I performance during the topic of India’s terrible batting performance. In the opening T20I, the latter was removed by Obed McCoy for 6.
“Ishan Kishan’s performance in T20 international cricket has been concerning. He hasn’t reached 40 in his previous 15 games, and his strike rate is not at all spectacular. The management can have a look at that. Yashasvi Jaiswal is in excellent shape after an impressive IPL season. I wonder if it’s a good idea to gaze at him,” the 45-year-old said.
28 T20I appearances later, Kishan has 659 runs scored at an average of 24.40 and a strike rate of 121.81.
