Atletico Madrid forward Antoine Griezmann is said to be “upset” and “hurt” about the rumored decision by France coach Didier Deschamps to name Kylian Mbappe captain of the Les Bleus.
Le Figaro (via Get French Football News) claims that Griezmann is considering his future with the national team as a result of the decision.
Following Hugo Lloris’ retirement in January, the Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) superstar was reportedly in line to become their new skipper, according to L’Equipe. Out of the two, 32-year-old Griezmann is notably the more experienced player.
Since making his debut in 2014, the versatile attacker has won 117 caps for France, scored 42 goals, and provided 36 assists. Mbappe, on the other hand, only got his first cap for Les Bleus in 2017; since then, he has scored 36 times and tallied 23 assists in 66 games.
Be that as it may, he is generally seen as the new substance of the public group. His stellar individual performances at the 2022 FIFA World Cup, where he scored eight goals and won the Golden Boot, only appear to have strengthened his case.
During the international break, Kylian Mbappe and Antoine Griezmann are both expected to play for France :
- Goalkeepers: Alphonse Areola, Mike Maignan, Brice Samba.
