According to an Italian publication called CalcioMercato Chelsea is among the clubs that are interested in signing Inter Milan defender Milan Skriniar on a free transfer next summer.
Chelsea will also be keeping an eye on the summer when the January transfer window opens. Manager Graham Potter is expected to receive support from owner Todd Boehly ahead of his first full season in charge.
The central defense is one area that the London giants will try to improve ahead of the 2023–24 season. Kalidou Koulibaly is also on the wrong side of his 30s, and Thiago Silva is getting close to the end of his career.
It would appear that Chelsea has already decided who they want to sign next summer to expand their defensive options. The aforementioned source claims that they are monitoring Skriniar’s Inter situation.
Since the summer of 2017, Skriniar has been employed by Inter and has frequently served as captain. However, he will be out of contract at the end of the current season with the giants of Serie A.
The Nerazzurri are determined to sign the Slovakia international to a new contract, but they haven’t been able to agree on anything yet. They are hopeful that they will soon be able to persuade the player to sign a new contract.
The team led by Simone Inzaghi is said to be in constant communication with Skriniar’s agents and has even made an offer. According to the report, they are prepared to offer the defender a four-year contract with a salary of €7 million per season, including bonuses.
However, Inter will not fork over a fortune to keep the 27-year-old at the club. In the meantime, the player is said to want to look at his choices before making a decision.
It’s important to note that Skriniar can talk to other clubs about a pre-contract starting in January. He could be acquired for free by Chelsea if the opportunity presents itself.
Chelsea could confront rivalry for Skriniar
Skriniar might actually be accessible on a free exchange, the Blues are not by any means the only club keen on marking him. CalcioMercato. reports that Tottenham Hotspur is also interested in the defender.
Real Madrid has been credited with an interest in the former Sampdoria central protector too. Los Blancos have been linked to RB Leipzig’s Josko Gvardiol because they want to improve their defense next summer.
Skriniar likewise has interest from France, with Paris Saint Germain (PSG) said to be his drawn-out admirers. During the summer before, there was a lot of talk about the Parisians moving in for the Slovakians.
