Shubman Gill, Ishan Kishan, and Yashasvi Jaiswal, according to Aakash Chopra, might be India’s top three in the opening T20I matchup against the West Indies.
A five-match Twenty20 International series between the Men in Blue and the Windies will begin on Thursday, August 3, at Tarouba, Trinidad. Jaiswal is another intriguing top-order prospect for the shortest format, while Gill and Kishan began batting in each of the three games in the last ODI series.
Chopra said that Gill and Kishan should ideally be the opening pair in a video posted to his YouTube channel, stating:
“Shubman Gill will undoubtedly participate. He should participate because he recently hit a T20I century and is returning after lighting up the IPL. Ishan Kishan makes sense to play next to him since he has four straight fifty-plus scores, including one in a Test match and three as the opener in ODIs.”
The former Indian opener clarified that Jaiswal is coming off of a successful IPL 2023 season as well as the Test series against the same opponents, adding:
“It will also turn into a left-right combination, although Yashasvi Jaiswal is also present. In the IPL, he too scored a lot of runs. He previously played KKR in Kolkata and recorded a century while being undefeated in the 1990s. He is a very talented athlete who performed admirably in the Tests.”
According to Chopra, the Indian team management could be persuaded to use all three:
So, will he have a chance here? Whether the three of them can bat at positions one, two, and three would likely be a little concern for the management of the Indian side. Given Yashasvi Jaiswal’s brilliance, I believe that will undoubtedly be a temptation.
In 14 innings of IPL 2023, Jaiswal scored 625 runs at a stunning strike rate of 163.61. Additionally, he smoked the league’s quickest fifty ever, accomplishing the feat in just 13 deliveries.
according to Aakash Chopra on Suryakumar Yadav’s batting position: “No. 4 is his latest”
If Gill, Kishan, and Jaiswal are in the XI, Aakash Chopra predicts Suryakumar Yadav, Hardik Pandya, and Sanju Samson to round out the top six, noting:
There are two more batters: Tilak Varma and Suryakumar Yadav. Suryakumar Yadav should bat at No. 3 or No. 4; No. 4 is his current position, although No. 3 is preferable. However, you may see Surya at No. 4, Hardik Pandya at No. 5, and Sanju Samson at No. 6 if Yashasvi, for instance, is playing at No. 3.
The former cricketer-turned-commentator believes Pandya and Co. should substitute Tilak Varma for Jaiswal, saying:
Tilak Varma won’t have a place. If not, you can choose to play Surya at No. 3, Tilak at No. 4, Hardik at No. 5, and Sanju at No. 6 instead of Yashasvi. That’s an additional choice.
According to Chopra, India will field both of its available wicketkeepers, Kishan and Samson, in the starting XI. Kishan should definitely play, he said, while mentioning Samson’s devastating half-century in the most recent ODI against the Windies.
