In the second Twenty20 International against the West Indies, Abhinav Mukund anticipates tenacious performances from players like Ishan Kishan, Tilak Varma, and Suryakumar Yadav.
India lost the first T20I against the Windies by four runs on Thursday, August 3, after failing to successfully chase down a 150-run mark. On Sunday, August 6, the second match of the five-match series will take place in Guyana.
When asked if India should alter their batting strategy during the preview of the second T20I on JioCinema, Mukund responded:
“My opinion is that India’s batting was influenced by the weather in Trinidad. The pitch, in my opinion, was sluggish and didn’t provide many opportunities for easy strokes. We anticipate another rather sluggish surface for the second T20I.”
The previous Indian opening continued:
“You may thus anticipate major plays from players like Ishan Kishan, Tilak Varma, who got off to a great start, and perhaps even Suryakumar Yadav.”
In the first T20I, Mukund felt that India was a little bit off the pace, particularly in the opening 10 overs. In the second game, he anticipates the young Indian hitters to play fearlessly.
Abhinav Mukund on how India would recover from its setback: “I don’t think you should read too much into this defeat”
When asked how India can recover from the loss in the first T20I, Abhinav Mukund responded:
“I don’t think you should make too much of this loss because I thought India played a young team,” the commentator said. With Hardik Pandya in charge, several new players, and a new batting order as such, they are playing a T20 match for the first time in a long time.
The former cricketer-turned-commentator lauded Hardik Pandya and the team’s strategy although some of its more seasoned players were absent, going on to say:
“There were no veteran players with the ball, like Virat Kohli, Ravindra Jadeja, Bumrah, or Shami. I don’t see a lot of cause for alarm. India seems to have a good game plan. In the end, they made a few blunders, but generally, I believe India will prevail if everything goes according to plan.”
Mukund finished by saying that because the game had narrow margins, it is too early to draw conclusions from the loss. He continued by saying that the visitors have a powerful side and would recover quickly.
