Aaron Hernandez Died at 27? What is the Cause of Death: Aaron Hernandez, a former tight end for the New England Patriots, committed suicide in his jail cell on Wednesday morning at the age of 27.
According to ESPN’s Michelle Steele, the Massachusetts Department of Corrections released a statement on Hernandez’s death:
Later, a representative for a Massachusetts prison told The Associated Press (based in the Boston Globe’s headquarters) that they were not aware of any suicide note Hernandez had left at the scene.
Hernandez was incarcerated for the 2013 slaying of semi-pro football player and landscaper Odin Lloyd and was serving a life sentence without the chance of release.
Hernandez died five days after being found not guilty of the 2012 murders of Safiro Furtado and Daniel de Abreu outside a Boston nightclub.

The Boston Globe’s Amy Ortiz and John R. According to The Element, Massachusetts DOC spokesman Christopher Fallon revealed that Hernandez was not under suicide watch.
The Bristol, Connecticut native played three seasons with the Patriots after being selected in the fourth round of the 2010 NFL Draft out of Florida.
