Aakash Chopra on Shreyas Iyer and Virat Kohli’s dismissal in the first IND Vs SA Test
Aakash Chopra on Shreyas Iyer and Virat Kohli’s dismissal Virat Kohli and Shreyas Iyer were playing well. Of course, they got chances as well. The South African fielding looked very ordinary, but both of them played good shots.
Shreyas Iyer’s six and Virat Kohli’s shot outside the ground, they were very good.”
The former India opening batsman said:
“Then lunch happened and the break in Test cricket is all about the wicket-takers.
As soon as he returned after lunch, Kagiso Rabada said that he was also there. Wickets fell and after that more wickets were expected to fall.”
Soon after, Rabada also dismissed Ravichandran Ashwin for eight, taking India’s score to 121/6.
But KL Rahul’s unbeaten score of 70 and his crucial partnerships with Mohammed Siraj, Jasprit Bumrah, and Shardul Thakur helped the visitors post a respectable score of 208/8 at stumps.
“You are defined by the sword, and the sword defines you” – Aakash Chopra on Rohit Sharma’s dismissal
Aakash Chopra reflected on the dismissals of the Indian top-order batsmen and said that Rohit Sharma was once again a victim of playing bridge. He said (3:10):
“You (India) did not start so well. Rohit Sharma played a pull shot, a fielder was present in the deep and he got out. You live by the sword, you die by the sword.
Rohit Sharma hits such brilliant sixes. Bridge.” “But we have seen him get out like this many times, especially in Test cricket.”
According to Chopra, Yashasvi Jaiswal was out on a good ball, but Shubhman Gill was unlucky and was caught out on the leg side. He said:
“Yashshwi Jaiswal looked good for as long as he played, he hit a few shots, but Nandre Berger, who is a very good bowler, took him away.
Shubman Gill can call himself unlucky as he got caught on the leg side. They went.” I got out because of my gloves, but the truth is that there is still a bit of a question mark over the upcoming delivery.”
After Rohit was out for five runs, Jaiswal was caught behind the wicket off the ball of Andre Berger after scoring 17 runs.
Gill could only score two runs before being dismissed behind the wicket by left-arm fast bowler Kyle Verreynne.
