Aakash Chopra has urged India against creating a square turner for the second Test against England, claiming that visiting batsmen will perform better than the hosts in such conditions.
England defeated India by 28 runs in the first game of the five-match series in Hyderabad on Sunday, January 28.
The second match will be contested in Visakhapatnam on Friday, February 2.
In a video posted to his YouTube page, Chopra advised that India should not prepare a rank turner for the second Test.
The opposition team will gain a lot of confidence from this.
If we play on a terrible wicket, their hitting is significantly more prepared.
They will bat better than us on a terrible pitch because they dare to take unusual strokes, something we lack.
The former India opener believes Shubman Gill and Shreyas Iyer’s lack of confidence will be magnified on a challenging surface.
We only have two hitters who play the sweep well: Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul.
Your number three and number five have no confidence. You’re struggling.
If we construct a dust basin, they will become even more trapped. Gill and Iyer’s confidence is shaky at the time.
Chopra stated that England’s bowlers will become as powerful as Indian spinners on a dust bowl.
He mentioned that Tom Hartley went through the Indian batting order on the fourth day in Hyderabad.
It appears that we have become used to playing on rank turners – Aakash Chopra on India’s bowling
Aakash Chopra believes India’s bowling is another cause for concern going into the second Test.
When England started using reverse and switch sweeps, we didn’t have a response.
We appear to have become acclimated to playing on rank turners.
When we have to work hard, we may not be as innovative.
The cricketer-turned-commentator used Jasprit Bumrah’s example to encourage India’s spinners to be more innovative.
Difficulties or unpleasant circumstances might encourage you to ponder, allowing your imagination to flourish. It doesn’t happen if things go well.
Then you become accustomed to it. If you saw Bumrah, he had to think more since it wasn’t his pitch.
Chopra explained that he needed to discover new methods to stay relevant.
Bumrah took 4/41 in 16.1 overs in England’s second innings.
In contrast, the Indian spinners surrendered 331 runs and took six wickets in 79 overs in the visitors’ second innings on a spin-friendly pitch.
