Aakash Chopra’s ODI team for 2023 includes six Indians, two South Africans, and one player from each of New Zealand, Pakistan, and Bangladesh. Australia won the 2023 One-Day International World Cup after defeating the Men in Blue in the final. However, no Australian player makes the cricketer-turned-commentator’s finest ODI XI of the year. Aakash Chopra has selected his ODI team for the year.
His ODI squad for 2023 is as listed below: Rohit Sharma (c), Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, Daryl Mitchell, Mohammad Rizwan, Shakib Al Hasan, Marco Jansen, Gerald Coetzee, Kuldeep Yadav, Mohammed Shami, Mohammed Siraj, and Mohammed Shami.
Aakash Chopra has selected his ODI team for the year
Chopra chose Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill as his opening pair. In 27 matches, Rohit Sharma has scored 1255 runs with two centuries and nine half-centuries at an average of 52 and a strike rate of 117. He will be the captain of his squad because he also led the team to the final.
His companion Shubman Gill came in second. In 29 matches, he scored 1584 runs with five centuries and nine half-centuries at an average of 63 and a strike rate of 105. Both enjoy the ODI format.
Chopra picked Mohammad Rizwan as the wicketkeeper-batter over KL Rahul because KL Rahul had a little better case here. In 25 matches, he has scored 1023 runs with one century and seven half-centuries at an average of over 64.
The strike rate is 93, which is acceptable. Shakib Al Hasan, the lone batting all-rounder in his XI, was chosen by the 46-year-old. In 22 ODI innings this year, Shakib scored 735 runs at an average of 35.00 and a strike rate of 89.85. He also took 23 wickets with an economy rate of 4.68.
Aakash Chopra chose Marco Jansen and Gerald Coetzee as the two South African players in his ODI squad of the year because Marco Jansen had 33 wickets in 20 matches and scored 406 runs at an average of 33 with a strike rate of 116, and Gerald Coetzee is also a very excellent bowler.
He, too, is a strong opponent. He has 31 wickets at an average of 23.2 and an economy of 6.5 in 14 matches. Chopra named Kuldeep Yadav as his lone specialist spinner, and he claimed 48 wickets in 28 matches. 48 wickets is an impressive total. He has a 4.6 economy with an average of 19.8.
The cricketer-turned-commentator rounded out his XI with the Indian seam-bowling combo of Mohammed Shami and Mohammed Siraj, who claimed 43 wickets at an economy of 5.3 and an average of 16.4 in 19 outings. Mohammed Siraj is the last but not least.
In addition, he has 44 wickets in 25 matches. Chopra added Shaheen Shah Afridi, Adam Zampa, KL Rahul, and Rachin Ravindra to his 15-man team as reserves.
