A Sneak Peek Inside Oleksandr Usyk-Anthony Joshua 2 Face-off Venue : Oleksandr Usyk will be seen defending his heavyweight title against former unified champion Anthony Joshua this Saturday. The match will be taking place in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.
The previous fight took place at The King Abdullah Sports City. This is a site located north of the city and is situated about 13 kilometers from the Red Sea.
British boxer Mike Goodall recently posted a video from his private Twitter account to show some behind-the-scenes work going on at the site of Saturday’s mammoth fight.
The site depicts the history of boxing. The site was the original home ground of the World Boxing Super Series: Cruiserweight tournament between Usyk and unified champion Murat Gassiev. That match was postponed and then was moved to Moscow, Russia when Usyk suffered an elbow injury.
The first match that was ever hosted by the venue ended up being a super-middleweight clash between George Groves and Callum Smith. Usyk-Joshua is going to be the second match ever held in this arena.
King Abdullah Sports City is named after the former Queen of Saudi Arabia. This Sports City is a multi-purpose stadium. This stadium is used primarily for football. It has also seen WWE and tracks and field events in the past.
Just outside the stadium that makes up the rest of the sports city are three football fields, four small indoor arenas, and six tennis courts. There is a larger indoor stadium that serves as a facility.
The match will be marking Usyk’s first fight in Saudi Arabia and Joshua’s second. Before, Joshua defeated Andy Ruiz to reclaim his title at Diriyah Arena located on the east side of King Abdullah Sports City.
Joshua is looking to repeat the success he had in Saudi Arabia. He is going to reattempt to reclaim the title from Usyk. Usyk has defeated Joshua at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium last year.
August belongs to a group of the hottest months of the year in Jeddah. The current temperatures range from 30° to 38°C.
