Piyush Chawla led MI to their first victory of the season by taking the wickets of Manish Pandey, Rovman Powell, and Lalit Yadav.
In match 16 of the 2023 Indian Premier League (IPL), which took place on Tuesday at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi between Delhi Capitals (DC) and Mumbai Indians (MI).
Veteran legspinner Piyush Chawla performed admirably. Chawla led MI to their first win of the season by taking the wickets of Manish Pandey, Rovman Powell, and Lalit Yadav.
MI purchased Chawla, who hasn’t played for India since December 2012, at the IPL 2023 mini-auction for Rs 50 lakh. In his three matches thus far, he has taken four wickets.
Makarand Waingankar, whose Twitter bio reads: “Ph.D. in cricket, Sports Journalist for over 50 years, and Cricket Management Consultant,” wrote in a tweet as Chawla ran past the DC batting lineup.
Capitals of Delhi? No. It’s Delhi who gives in. Too many cricketing cerebrums passing on in the dove yet in the center their batsmen were confused against a leggie who doesn’t even play for his state.”
Parthiv Patel, a former wicketkeeper and batsman for India, disagreed with his remark, writing in a response to the tweet, ” That leggie’s name is PIYUSH CHAWLA, and he has won two World Cups and taken 161 IPL wickets. He also plays professionally for GUJARAT.
Chawla, 34, was a member of the Indian teams that won both the ICC World Cup in 2011 and the inaugural ICC World T20 in 2007.
The last ODI Chawla played was in the 2011 World Cup. In 2012, he returned to Test play against England, but he soon vanished into thin air.
Not long after the World T20 in Sri Lanka that very year, Chawla lost his position in the briefest configuration also.
