A fan’s poster of Virat Kohli has gone viral during the Twenty20 International in Lahore. India and Pakistan both like cricket, so it’s no surprise that cricket players from both countries are famous on both sides of the border. Indian fans have a lot of respect for Pakistan’s captain Babar Azam right now, while Virat Kohli, the Men in Blue’s star batter, is very popular in Pakistan.
At the 6th T20I of the series between Pakistan and England, which took place at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore, a fan’s banner went viral on social media. A fan of the Pakistan cricket team was seen inside the arena holding a sign that said he loved Kohli and wanted him to play a game in their country before he retired.
Kohli’s game in Pakistan
Even though Kohli has played international cricket in all three formats for 14 years, he has never played a game in Pakistan. Since the 26/11 Mumbai terrorist attacks in 2008, relations between the two countries have been bad. So they no longer play each other in bilateral series. Instead, they only play each other in multi-nation events like ICC tournaments and the Asia Cup. In 2012/13, Pakistan played 3 ODIs and 2 T20Is in India, which was a small exception.
The last time Team India went to Pakistan was in 2008 for the Asia Cup, which was won by Sri Lanka. This happened about a month before Kohli made his first international appearance with the national team. Since 2006, when they played a Test and ODI series in Pakistan, India has not gone there for a bilateral series.
Both Kohli and Pakistan have not faced each other ever in a Test match. The last time the two teams played red-ball cricket against each other was in 2007 when India hosted a three-match series and five one-day internationals.
