T20 leagues have grown a lot since the Indian Premier League (IPL) started. The Indian Premier League (IPL) was launched in 2008 by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), with eight franchises based in cities competing for the prestigious championship.
In 2008, business tycoons, Bollywood actors, and other famous people spent a lot of money buying IPL franchises. Throughout the long term, the brand worth of IPL groups has expanded fundamentally, and presently each establishment is worth many crores of rupees.
The BCCI made a staggering 12,715 crore rupees when it sold two new franchises at the end of 2021. The IPL teams continue to have unrivaled brand value. It is interesting to note that the value of some franchises in other T20 leagues is significantly lower than the salaries of some players in the IPL.
For instance, the Pakistan Super League franchise for Quetta was purchased for $11 million for ten years. The sum comes to $1.1 million annually, which is less than what several top players earn in the IPL.
Despite the fact that Cricket Australia and the England and Wales Cricket Board centrally own the Big Bash League (BBL) and The Hundred teams, the total salary cap for some players is comparable to that of the IPL.
Although it is unknown how much teams in the UAE’s ILT20 and SA20 sell for, here is a list of five Indian players who can do so with their IPL 2023 salaries alone if we assume that a team in an overseas league needs between USD 1.5 and 2 million (or 12.41 crore and 16.55 crore) for one year.
#1 Virat Kohli
Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) held Virat Kohli for ₹15 crores in front of the IPL 2023 Auction. Kohli has earned 173.2 crore rupees from the tournament thus far, making him one of the highest-paid cricketers in league history.
In addition, Kohli’s earnings off the field are sky-high. In international T20 leagues, he can purchase multiple teams.
#2 KL Rahul
The captain of the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), KL Rahul, is the Indian cricketer with the highest salary in IPL 2023. The Lucknow-based establishment has held him for ₹17 crores.
In the 2022 Indian Premier League, Sam Curran and Cameron Green earned more money than Rahul, who was the highest-paid cricketer.
#3 Ravindra Jadeja
The Chennai Super Kings (CSK) retained Ravindra Jadeja as their top pick this season. He was retained by CSK for the same salary in 2023, and CSK paid him 16 crore rupees for his services in IPL 2022.
Jadeja was initially thought to be in the auction pool. If he had participated in the IPL 2023 auction, one can only imagine how much money he would have earned.
#4 Rishabh Pant
Prior to the IPL 2022 auction, Delhi Capitals (DC) captain Rishabh Pant was also retained for 16 crores. Considering that he only made his debut in the IPL in 2016, Pant’s salary has skyrocketed faster than that of other players.
Pant can easily purchase a team with his IPL salary if he wants to invest in international T20 leagues.
#5 Rohit Sharma
The Mumbai Indians (MI) captain, like Rishabh Pant and Ravindra Jadeja, has a contract that is worth 16 crore rupees. His total IPL earnings total 178.6 crore rupees.
Sharma could even start his own T20 league with four to five teams if he decides to use his total IPL earnings.
