The Vijay Hazare Prize 2022 is arriving at its business end with only the last leftover. Both Saurashtra and Maharashtra have been selected to compete in the championship game, which will be held on Friday, December 2 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
India’s most prestigious domestic 50-over competition is still a great place for new talent to develop. When you consider the number of batters who have stood up to be counted, this season has been even more amazing.
Ruturaj Gaikwad stole the show with seven sixes in an over as he tries to get back into the Indian team, but Narayan Jagadeesan stole the show with his record-breaking season.
Throughout the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2022, numerous young batters have established records. The following is a list of five of them:
#5: Aryan Juyal, Uttar Pradesh
A wicketkeeper and batsman who was a part of India’s Under-19 World Cup squad in 2018, Aryan Juyal had a fantastic Vijay Hazare Trophy season for Uttar Pradesh (UP). He consistently performed in the opening position, scoring 494 runs at an average of 70.57 and a strike rate of 82.33.
He scored two half-centuries and two centuries to keep the UP innings together as they advanced to the quarterfinals.
In fact, he scored 159 out of 143 points in Uttar Pardesh’s quarterfinal defeat to Maharashtra to stand out among the rubble.
#4 Yash Dubey – Madhya Pradesh
Yash Dubey was one of the main people who helped Madhya Pradesh win the Ranji Trophy
The right-handed starter scored 476 runs with two tons and two home runs at an average of 95.20 and a strike rate of 105.54.
Dubey nearly hit a double century against Nagaland on the same day that Jagadeesan scored 277 runs with an unbeaten 195.
He is a very promising future prospect despite his technical compactness.
#3 Rohan Kunnummal – Kerala
This has been Rohan Kunnummal’s dream year. He went on to win the Vijay Hazare Trophy after scoring a lot of runs in the Ranji Trophy and Duleep Trophy.
The 24-year-old opener got done with 414 runs at a normal of 103.50 and a touring strike pace of 131.84.
With a call-up to the India A squad, which is currently in Bangladesh, he is making all the right noises, and he could be in line for a ground-breaking IPL contract at the auction in December.
#2 B Sai Sudharsan – Tamil Nadu
Despite the fact that Jagadeesan has received the most media attention, his opening act, B Sai Sudharsan, is not far behind.
In the current Vijay Hazare Trophy, the southpaw and Jagadeesan have formed an unstoppable partnership, scoring 610 runs at an average of 76.25 and a strike rate of 111.92.
Throughout his career, he has accomplished three centuries and two half-centuries. Sudharsan would have been the tournament’s best batter if not for Jagadeesan’s record-breaking streak.
With Tamil Nadu disposed of in the quarter-finals, he will not have the option to add to his count.
#1 Narayan Jagadeesan – Tamil Nadu
The 2022 Vijay Hazare Trophy season is likely to be remembered as Jagadeesan’s. The wicketkeeper-batsman, who was 220 runs ahead of Sudharsan in the run-scoring charts, broke a few records just for fun.
It has been the stuff of dreams for the opener, who broke Ali Brown’s record for the highest score in List-A cricket and became the first man on the planet to score five tons in succession.
This could just be the turning point for the 26-year-old Jagadeesan, who was released by the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) ahead of the IPL 2023 Auction. He is a neat gloveman who loves big runs.
