The Mumbai Indians (MI) dominated just four matches in the 2022 Indian Head Association (IPL) as they wrapped up with the shame of the wooden spoon.
It is understandable that the five-time champions made an effort to shake up their roster by letting go of as many as 13 players in advance of the IPL 2023 auction. In the massive purge, names like Jaydev Unadkat, Sanjay Yadav, Fabian Allen, and Kieron Pollard were let go.
Some of the people who are still around may have more on their plates this time around if they weren’t fully involved in the team’s 2022 campaign. The following is a list of three MI players who may have a significant impact on IPL 2023.
#3 Kumar Kartikeya
Sanjay Yadav, the Tamil Nadu Premier League Player of the Tournament, was released by Kumar Kartikeya MI before the IPL 2023 auction. Fabian Allen, a West Indies all-rounder, was also let go.
As a result, Kumar Kartikeya is the only specialist spinner and the only left-arm spinner on the roster. In the four games he played for the team in IPL 2022, he took five wickets at an economy rate of 7.85 and used all of his variations.
Kartikeya will undoubtedly be trusted with a lot of responsibility in the IPL 2023 because he has recently enjoyed a good run in domestic cricket, particularly in the longer formats. It wouldn’t be a shock to see him play MI’s games.
#2 Ramandeep Singh
Ramandeep Singh has been a standout for Punjab with both the bat and the ball over the past few months. He is another player who has had a good domestic season.
The hard-hitting all-rounder has made his mark as of late and could be one of MI’s most significant players in IPL 2023.
Quality pace-bowling all-rounders, especially of the pace-bowling variety, are desperately needed by Rohit Sharma and co. Daniel Sams, who played the role for them in IPL 2022, was let go by them. Ramandeep, who appeared in five games for the team the previous season, is all set to assume a larger role.
#1 Tristan Stubbs
It may seem odd to say that Tristan Stubbs is underrated because he is one of the white-ball batters in T20 leagues around the world who is most sought after. However, he is not even MI’s most talked-about young South African.
Stubbs has slipped under the radar in a sea of names like Tim David and Dewald Brevis. Because he has played for South Africa and at a higher level of domestic T20 competition, he is arguably a more accomplished player than Brevis.
He might also fit MI’s requirements, which call for a middle-order batter who can contribute with a few spin-outs and is a powerhouse on the field.
Stubbs has a lot of potentials, so MI will probably use him for IPL 2023. He was signed to replace Tymal Mills, but he only appeared in two games for the team. However, that could all change in a few months.
