Last Friday, the IPL 2023 player auction took place in Kochi. There, ten franchises offered contracts to 80 players.
For the 2023 season, IPL contracts are in place for 243 players. Namibian and Irish players will compete in the IPL for the first time, showcasing their skills on the field. Pakistan is the only nation in which Test players do not hold an IPL contract.
Pakistani players are not permitted to participate in the Indian Premier League for reasons off the field. Fans should be aware, however, that three of the 243 players with IPL contracts in 2023 are Pakistani. A list of those three cricketers can be found here.
#1 Sikandar Raza will play his first game in the IPL in 2023
Sikandar Raza was born in the city of Sialkot in Pakistan. At the recently concluded player auction, the Punjab Kings offered him his first IPL contract, so he will play in the upcoming season.
The Zimbabwean all-rounder was acquired by Punjab Kings for 50 lakh rupees. For Punjab Kings in the IPL 2023, it appears that Raza will play the finisher and off-spin bowling all-rounder roles.
In T20 cricket, Raza has played 158 matches and scored 3,109 runs at a strike rate of 129.81. These are his statistics. He has scored 19 T20 50s. At an economy rate of 7.34, Raza has taken 79 wickets in the bowling department. His highest bowling score is 4/8.
Raza has previously participated in the Bangladesh Premier League, Pakistan Super League, Mzansi Super League, and Caribbean Premier League. In his first IPL season, it will be interesting to see how he does.
#2 Moeen Ali
Moeen Ali, an England all-rounder, is also from Pakistan. In IPL 2023, the spin-bowling all-rounder will represent the Chennai Super Kings (CSK). He had been retained by CSK prior to the IPL 2022 Mega Auction, so his retention for the 2023 season was not unexpected.
In both areas, Ali has been a match-winner for the Chennai-based franchise. He has played a few extraordinary thumps for the group while likewise making his presence felt in the twist office. CSK’s success in IPL 2023 will depend on the all-rounder.
#3 Adil Rashid
Adil Rashid had a significant impact on England’s victory in the T20 World Cup earlier this year. The England spinner of Pakistani descent was awarded an IPL contract for the 2023 season after the previous mega auction saw no bids.
In IPL 2023, Rashid will represent SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH), the defending champions from 2016. He was signed by SRH for his base salary of 2 crores.
The SRH spin department is likely to be led by Rashid during the upcoming season. In the spin attack of the team, he will have support from Akeal Hosein, Mayank Markande, Abdul Samad, Washington Sundar, and Abhishek Sharma.
