Three problems fixed by SRH at the IPL 2023 auction The Indian Premier League (IPL) auction in 2023 was always going to be a big deal for Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), and December 23 lived up to expectations.
SRH signed as many as 13 players, including four international stars, and had the largest purse of any of the ten franchises going into the event. Due largely to their auction business, Hyderabad now appears to be a formidable unit capable of competing for the IPL 2023 trophy.
In the IPL 2023 auction, SRH resolved the following three issues:
#3 SRH significantly improved its spin department
SRH utilized four fast bowlers for the majority of IPL 2022. Umran Malik caused havoc in the middle overs, while Bhuvneshwar Kumar and T Natarajan handled business in the powerplay and at the death, respectively. In addition, Kartik Tyagi, Marco Jansen, and Fazalhaq Farooqi appeared in the season.
However, Hyderabad lacked spin as a strength. In the IPL 2023 auction, SRH attempted to rectify that by signing up to six spin options. Adil Rashid and Mayank Markande added strength to the wrist-spin department, and Akeal Hosein was also acquired.
Part-time option Vivrant Sharma and left-arm spinning all-rounder Mayank Dagar joined SRH from the domestic market. SRH already has Abhishek Sharma, Aiden Markram, and Washington Sundar on their roster.
If the conditions permit, SRH can now afford to play an additional tweaker and drop a fast bowler. In addition, they have sufficient alternate spin options.
#2 SRH’s middle order now looks lethal
Aiden Markram, Nicholas Pooran, and Rahul Tripathi made up SRH’s middle order in IPL 2023, and this time around, it appears that they have gotten even stronger. Tripathi and Markram may be partnered by a number of talented batters, as Abhishek Sharma and Mayank Agarwal are scheduled to open the batting.
Harry Brook commanded a staggering 13.25 crore rupees, and the SRH batting lineup will be formidable thanks to his range and speed. Another significant acquisition was Heinrich Klaasen, who was known for his ability to keep wickets and spin. Meanwhile, Glenn Phillips continues to be a part of the team.
Because they have a good crop of Indian fast bowlers, SRH might even be able to play all four overseas batters—Markram, Brook, Phillips, and Markram. After their performance at the IPL 2023 auction, their middle order appears to be deadly.
#1 SRH acquired a potential captain and three definite starters
Kane Williamson served as SRH’s captain in the 2022 IPL. Even though he was a smart leader, his batsmanship was always lacking. The Kiwi had a low strike rate and put a lot of pressure on his fellow batters to make up for it.
After getting rid of Williamson and spending a lot of money, Hyderabad will have a new captain this time around. One option is Mayank Agarwal, who led the Punjab Kings in the IPL 2022. Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Aiden Markram, and Rahul Tripathi are also candidates, and Abhishek Sharma has expressed an interest in the position.
SRH appears to have acquired not only a leader for the upcoming few seasons but also three definite starters at the IPL 2023 auction, and Mayank is currently the frontrunner. Brook and Klaasen, who were acquired for a combined 18.5 crore, might also be on the roster.
In contrast to other teams, SRH made significant changes to their starting XI. That was the most encouraging thing they got out of the IPL 2023 auction.
