2022 Home Run Derby info: Major League Baseball’s 2022 Home Run Derby is set to come up on Monday night at Los Angeles’ Dodger Stadium. Headlining the eight-slugger field is Pete Alonso, New York Mets star, who is trying to become the first hitter ever to win three consecutive MLB Home Run Derbies (only Ken Griffey Jr. so far has three total Derby wins). Alonso had the best time in 2019 and last year.
Joining Alonso in the field of eight this year are Juan Soto of the Nationals, Kyle Schwarber of the Phillies, Ronald Acuña Jr. of the Braves, Albert Pujols of the Cardinals, José Ramírez of the Guardians, Mariners rookie Julio Rodriguez, and former Dodger and current Ranger Corey Seager.

Participants are preparing for the opening round based on the number of home runs they hit this season as of July 13.

Home Run Derby format
- Each contestant is set to get three minutes in the first and second rounds to hit as many home runs as he can. Contestants in the finals, or the third round, will be getting only two minutes.
- Each contestant will get a bonus of 30 seconds at the end of each regulation period, and that time is provisioned to be increased to 60 seconds if the contestant hits a home run of nothing less than 440 feet.
- Each contestant will get one 45-second time out during each regulation period.
- Any round that ends in a tie will be decided by a 60-second “swing off” with no time-outs or bonus time.
- The winner is set to get $1 million of the $2.5 million prize pool.
