The Big Ten and Big East play an eight-game series each season known as the Gavitt Tipoff Games, which began in 2015. Teams compete in a rotation because there are only eight games in the event. This makes sure that not every team participates every year. The Big Ten has a 2-1-3 advantage in the game’s six-year history. When the Big East eventually won their first series in 2021, the Big Ten had won back-to-back games while the first three years had ended in ties.
The series is named in honor of Dave Gavitt, the inaugural commissioner of the Big East and a former athletic director at Providence. The games’ dates for this year have not yet been made public. The home games of Big Ten schools will be shown on BTN, while the away games will be broadcast on FS1.
