2022 Fantasy Football Draft Prep: Updated wide receiver rankings and tiers to kick off training camp
2022 Fantasy Footba2022 Fantasy Football Draft Prep: If you want to sum up the condition of the wide receiver position heading into the 2022 draft, I think this is about as good as it gets: Wide receivers make up only nine of my top 24 and 19 of my top 48, but they account for 48 of the next 102 players. The position has fewer clear impact players than we’ve come to expect in previous years, but it is as deep as ever in terms of contributors.
In recent weeks, I’ve come to the opinion that there’s definitely a bigger gap between Justin Jefferson and Ja’Marr Chase than I first assumed, hence the tier difference. Of course, Chase could improve in his second season in the same way Jefferson did, but it’s worth noting that while Jefferson maintained elite efficiency, he still averaged 1.5 yards per target less in his second season than his first; He made up for it with 42 more targets, which is more difficult to predict for Chase with Tee Higgins also demanding objectives.
Of course, I’d be satisfied with either as my No. 1 wide receiver, and it could be more crucial to obtain one of those exceptional guys this season since I’m not sure how many there are. I am certain that the top five in my rankings are exceptional, and I am quite confident in the following two tiers, but there are enough doubts about them all to be wary. Deebo Samuel, in particular, dropped a few slots (and a tier) for me since I’m not certain he’ll have the amount or quality of touches he needs to come close to replicating last season.
