2022 Citi Open: Washington 2022 – Men’s Draw, Schedule: The Citi Open is going to be in Washington DC, which is the first ATP 500 event of the US hardcourt swing and will take place between 1-7 August.
In place of defending champion Jannik Sinner, World No. 8 Andrey Rublev leads the line-up. Taylor Fritz and other Americans will be looking to make an impact this week. You also have Hubert Hurkacz, Grigor Dimitrov, and Karen Khachanov for the mix.
The Citi Open is the oldest tournament. It was co-founded in 1969 by tennis legend Arthur Ashe along with Donald Dell and John Harris, who picked the location when Ashe convinced them Rock Creek Park would be a good place for tennis.
Andre Agassi, who is American, has the most titles at the Citi Open. Andre Agassi took five consecutive wins in 1990-91, in addition to 1995 and 1998-99. American legends like Jimmy Connors and Andy Roddick have also won titles here.
The Citi Open tournament will be hosted in the outdoor hardcourts of Rock Creek Park, which is the same venue it has been since the event began.
Andrey Rublev is looking at a difficult start with opponents like Stefan Kozlov and Maxime Cressy in his section of the list, while he could also meet Denis Shapovalov or Holger Rune in the third round of the tournament.
The top-ranked American in the men’s draw will face stiff competition from 4th ranked Karen Khachanov and 5th ranked Alex de Minaur.
The American player, Reilly Opelka, will most likely play against Tommy Paul from the US in round 3. He could meet with an even stronger opponent in the quarter finals, Frances Tiafoe or Botic van de Zandschlup.
Hurkacz faces a difficult path to the final four of the tournament. He will need to play against Andy Murray and Aslam Karatsev before facing Grigor Dimitrov.
This year, the Citi Open will be held on July 30- 31. The Qualifying matches will be played on a different day. Main draw matches will start on August 1 at 11 am Local time.
The total prize money of this year’s tournament is $1,953,285. When the winner wins the championship title for their league 35 times in a row, they will take home a cheque of $33,200 and 280 ranking points.
