2022/23 home kit of New Chelsea designed to honor legend club Idol Drake. It’s time to present the new Nike home kit that the Chelsea team will wear across the 2022/23 season. The kit is specially designed to pay homage to Ted Drake. Drake was one of the most priceless figures in the history of the club.
It’s almost 70 years since Drake became a part of Chelsea in the role of the manager in the year 1952. Even after so many years, the influence of Drake can still be felt strongly at Stamford Bridge.
There is a theme that gets continued by the new home kit along with other features. A nod was given for the innovative changes, that are added by Drake. It helped to modernize the club, leading to the finest turning points in club history.
This former visionary Chelsea manager is best known for guiding the club to the first-ever top-flight league title in 1955. He did the player recruitment wisely without following the past ways of hiring big yet unreliable.
It was all his efforts to revolutionize the Chelsea club off the pitch to cement the lasting legacy of Drake at Chelsea. Through the new home kit for 2022/23, respect and honor are given to this legacy.
He was the one who changed the nickname of the club from ‘the Pensioners’ to ‘the Blues.’ He thought that it makes it feel more perfect for the dynamic team that he was in the mode of building in west London. It turned out to be a moniker and remained ever since. You can see ‘the Blues’ appearing on the buttons of the collar of the new shirt.
That collar also indicates another big change in the club’s identity, which was made by Drake and stood strong in the test of time – the addition of the paradigmatic ‘lion rampant regardant’ on the club badge. It replaced the image of the Chelsea Pensioner under the traditional Blues boss.
The current badge is quite similar to that badge, that used to be worn on the shirts of the team at the time of the final season of Drake at the Bridge in 1960/61.
Representing the club’s determination and fearless act, the blazonry lion gets featured further on the neckline (Henley), just like a turquoise pattern. The detail reminds 1950s style with a contemporary twist. It gives a fresh feeling even today. Drake’s vision is still followed by the club.
The 2022/23 home kit will be made available on sale globally on Wednesday 13 July. For supporters, it’s not that easy to get it in hand already, as it will be made available for initial access from the Official Online Store of Chelsea and in the Stamford Bridge Stadium Megastore now.
