Pakistan, on Tuesday, the 16th of August 2022, defeated the Netherlands by 16 runs in the first ODI of the three-match sequence. The ODI took place at Hazelaarweg in Rotterdam. The guests had to work hard as the house crew was in the sport for fairly a while.
Pakistan opted to bat first. The team started with a poor performance as Imam-ul-Haq, one of many main run-scorers, got out after scoring two. From there on, Babar Azam and Fakhar Zaman went on to steady the ship. They scored 168 runs for the second wicket.
Babar and Fakhar were more cautious with their start than stepping on the gasoline. Logan van Beek dismissed the 27-year-old Babar and ended the partnership of Babar and Fakhar. Babar scored 74 runs off 85 deliveries with six fours and one six. After Babar got out, Fakhar attained a run-a-ball 109 with 12 fours and a six.
After he got out, Mohammad Rizwan and Khushdil Shah strained themselves to get the scoreboard increasing. However, a 48-run cameo from Shadab Khan led Pakistan past the 300-run mark.
Agha Salman made his debut together with Naseem Shah in ODI. Salman scored an unbeaten 16-ball 27 runs in an unbeaten 48-run stand with Shadab. Van Beek and Bas de Leede knocked two wickets and Pakistan completed the batting with 314 for six.
The Netherlands had early jitters about their run-chase after Max O’Dowd and Wesley Barresi failed to cross single digits. Bas de Leede fell prey to Mohammad Wasim Jr. From there on, Vikramjit Singh and Tom Cooper toiled in the sun and added 97 runs for the fourth wicket.
Both batsmen got out after scoring 65 runs. In the last overs, the focus was on skipper Scott Edwards and van Beek to churn out the big shots. Van Beek managed to score a well-made 28 runs before pulling Haris Rauf straight down the throat of Mohammad Nawaz.
Scott Edwards maintained his unbeaten performance on 71 runs off 60 deliveries with six fours and one six. However, his effort was all in vain. Haris Rauf and Naseem Shah knocked three wickets.
